Zachar Bay Lodge was established in 1989 by longtime Kodiak residents Marty and Linda Eaton as a wilderness destination for fishing and wildlife viewing adventures. We have lived in Kodiak for many years, and we would like to share the beauty of the Alaska's Emerald Isle with you.
You may find yourself in the deep Alaskan wilderness when you arrive at Zachar Bay, but our accommodations are that of a charming and well-kept resort. Zachar Bay Lodge has four primary buildings used for the summer fishing and wildlife viewing season. Each building provides lodging for our summertime guests, including private rooms with their own bathrooms.
No matter where you find yourself at Zachar Bay Lodge, you’ll find yourself at home. All rooms provide the rustic and outdoor setting you expect to find at a wilderness lodge while simultaneously giving you the privacy, cleanliness, and facilities you want from a resort. Enjoy a slice of private Alaskan paradise whether you’re up the hill at the Pisces and Bay Houses, down by the water in the Dining Hall, or nestled against a pond in the Animal House. Most rooms are available for reconfiguration of the beds, so don’t hesitate to ask if you would prefer a king or a pair of twin beds for your stay. At Zachar Bay Lodge, enjoy the luxury of a hotel with the remoteness of camping.
Private rooms have clean sheets, blankets, pillowcases, and towels, and are cleaned daily by the maid service. Laundry facilities are on site and laundering services are provided upon request. Special dietary requests are also provided for if an advance notice given. Electricity is turned off at night, but an inverter and battery is available for guests needing electricity after hours. Cell phones do not work at Zachar Bay Lodge, but limited Internet access is available in the Dining Hall.
We feature fresh halibut and salmon several times a week, choice cuts of meat, and just good, home-cooked food. Our buffet served meals ensures that you get plenty of everything that you like -- and if you enjoy 2nd's - help yourself! You are on vacation!

Started in the early 1900's as a salmon cannery, our facility is one of the few remaining reminders of Kodiak Island's rich fishing history. The large dock and cannery has gone many changes over the years, turning to herring processing, salmon roe, and now a Wilderness Lodge for your enjoyment.
The Pisces House resides at the top of a relatively steep hill and commands an impressive view of the whole lodge and the Zachar Bay itself. It is a single building with a wraparound boardwalk and is divided into three rooms with private doors. Each room has its own bathroom and two beds that can be configured into one king bed upon request.
Halibut Hole – Far left room. Private shower, two twin beds, standard resort accoutrements.
Salmon Redd – Middle room. Private shower, two twin beds, standard resort accoutrements.
Dolly Varden Eddy – Far right room. Private shower and bath, one king bed, standard resort accoutrements.
The Animal House is situated at the heart of Zachar Bay Lodge. This house is perfect for families or for those traveling in a large group together. The house is divided into four individual rooms connected by a shared living area and two bathrooms. It is a short walk away from the Dining Hall and backs up to a pond inhabited by fowl friends.
Beaver Lodge – First room on the left. Shared showers and living area, one king bed, standard resort accoutrements.
Fox Lair – First room on the right. Shared showers and living area, one queen bed, standard resort accoutrements.
Bear Den – Second room on the left. Shared showers and living area, two twin beds, standard resort accoutrements.
Deer Bed – Second room on the right. Shared showers and living area, two twin beds, standard resort accoutrements.
The Bay House is the neighboring building to the Pisces House and is connected to it by a raised wrap-around boardwalk. The Bay House is a single building divided into two private rooms which each have their own bathroom. These rooms enjoy a touch more privacy and are reached by climbing a steep, but short, hill. Each room has reconfigurable beds depending on your need.
Sea Otter Pod – Far left room. Private shower and bath, one king bed, standard resort accoutrements.
Seal Estuary – Far right room. Private shower, two twin beds, standard resort accoutrements.
